Comments: Was in Korea 1953&54 served in what I thought was one of the best units in the Army. Just returned from reunion that was held in Louisville, Ky, where I met some of the men that have signed the 59th LCC guest book. I have great admiration for all the vietnam veterans, they were serving in a harsh country where no one knew friend from enemy. It has taken many years for the American people to honor not only the Korean Vets, but also the Vietnam Vets. We answered the call of our country, what more can a man do for his country than to serve when called upon.

Comments: I viewed this site after I received a message today on my answering machine looking for my Uncle Lowell T Renshaw which served in the Unit. Sad to say he passed away June 22, 2003 of cancer from agen orange. He left a wife, 2 sons amd 3 grandchildren at the time. I guess the war will never end for some out there. I spent 11 years in the Army myself and know the need to connect with old friends. And to get the bad news that one has fallen brings it all back again. Bless you all and hope you have many more years to enjoy.

Comments: Hello this is "D" from the 59th LC 9-10-1969 thru 2-12-1970 and again 10-8-1970 thru 12-9-1971. I looked at the photo album it brought back lots of memories. I served in Co. B 577th Eng. Bn. (const) 8-9-1967 to 7-1-1968 then the 59th then 137th Eng.Co.(LE) 2-15-1970 to 10-6-1970 then to the 59th again then 1st Cav Div. (am) S&T Co. 3rd Bd. 1st AV Div. 12-10-1971 to 5-30-1972. On your websight I didn't see any mention about the rocks that moved that were really big giant lizards. Another memory I had was when a bunch went to a swimming hole to get clean and came up with ringworm, I didn't get it because I was putting a pan up on the dozer. I hope to hear from some of you. Write or email. If you don't hear back from me through email then a virus or worm got this computer. We have had 2 in a year that fryed the mother board and ate the hard drive. "D" Bill DeAtley

Great web site Tim. Frank Reyes turned me onto it, he also sends his greetings. I was in the 14th Eng. at Fort Ord, Ca. from 85-87 as a heavy equipment operator. I ran a road grader mostly. After that I went to the 78th Eng. in Ettlingen, Germany for 2 years. I really enjoyed the pictures on this site as they remind me of when I was in the service. There's a certain look of Engineer and I recognize that look in these photo's.
Thank you and Welcome Home !

never thought I would make it this long or far. Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming WOW! WHAT A RIDE!!!

My Brother, Boyd Shook, lost his life in 'Nam - July 1970. My daughter found your site during a school project on Veteran's Day. It re-opened a whole new chapter in my life and at the same time..healing a lot of the pain. I know that it had to have helped many others. Tim...your site is just awesome. BOYD IS MY HERO...and I thank all of you that have served for my freedom. May God Bless You All.

Comment: My platoon and Troop secured Rome Plows from the 59LCC in Northern I Corp for about a month in June 1970. I have pictures on my web site, WWW.geocities.com/billy_g_elk. On 19 June, 1970 just southeast of My Loc on Hwy 558 running south off QL9 at Cam Lo we were securing a Plow Platoon. The day before, the plows had uncovered an NVA camp along a river bank. My track & one other were flying NVA flags that we picked up and it must have pissed the NVA off. The next morning just after daylight as we were moving out in column the leading Plow hit a mine at YD165530. We were taken under fire by small arms from all around the leading few tracks. I had a Sheridan M551 following the first Rome plow , then another plow, then my 26 APC. We engaged and then followed blood trails for awhile & found 2 NVA KIA. None of the engineers were hurt that day. When I say "secured" the plows, I am streching it a bit. You boys were a strange breed. The lead plow would just start off through where most men would fear to tread and the rest of you would follow. We talked about your unit then and still talk about you now. You were either fearless, brave, clueless, or just plain stupid. Five of the men from my Platoon have been meeting for several years and we still salute your bravery. I salute you now. Thank you. Tim and the gang...I guess I am an honorary member of the 59th Land Clearing Company. I was in C Company next door to you folks (my, but you were a roudy bunch). As most of you know, Harry Prince was a friend of mine, and on occassion I spent the night n the field with you guys, sharing Harry's tent, and some of his thoughts. What a great guy he was and a tragic loss! I really enjoyed the re-union and look forward to the next one. Thanks for having me. Mike Shaw

Thanks for the website. I haven't yet explored it, but I thought I would go ahead and register. I was a welder/repairman with the 59th from Sept. '70 to Sept. '71. Our rear area was Chu Lai for most of that time. I'd be glad to hear from anybody from hose times. Later Brother, Red for K.C., MO

Even after all these years it's still hard to imagine them gone. We were such a close group that I still have a tough time with accepting it. But this is such a good thing to do for them.
